Super Mario Odyssey - Review
Super Mario Odyssey is an incredible game with a vibrant art style, a wide variety of imaginative worlds to explore, and one of the most creative mechanics Nintendo has ever introduced: Cappy. This simple but brilliant addition allows Mario to take control of enemies and objects, turning almost every encounter into a new gameplay opportunity. As a result, the game constantly feels fresh and full of variety.
Cappy isn’t just used for capturing enemies—he also greatly expands Mario’s movement options. You can throw Cappy forward and dive toward him to extend your jumps, or spin him around Mario to attack enemies from all directions. These mechanics add depth to the platforming and encourage players to experiment, making movement feel smooth, responsive, and extremely satisfying.
The story in Super Mario Odyssey isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it delivers a classic Mario setup. Bowser has captured Princess Peach—this time planning to marry her—and has also kidnapped Tiara, who happens to be Cappy’s sister. This leads to Mario and Cappy teaming up to stop Bowser and rescue them. While the story is fairly basic, it never gets in the way of the gameplay. A stronger narrative might have elevated the game even further, but its simplicity doesn’t harm the overall experience.
One of the best aspects of Super Mario Odyssey is the Power Moon system. Power Moons are scattered throughout each kingdom and are required to power the Odyssey airship, allowing Mario to travel closer to the Moon and eventually face Bowser. What makes them special is the sheer number of ways you can obtain them. You can earn moons by defeating bosses, ground-pounding specific spots, throwing your cap at hidden objects, helping NPCs, solving puzzles, or completing platforming challenges.
Because there are far more Power Moons available than you actually need to progress, players are never forced to find a specific one. This means everyone experiences the game differently, discovering different moons and exploring kingdoms in their own unique way. The constant reward of finding moons keeps the game engaging from start to finish.
Overall, Super Mario Odyssey is a consistently fun and creative experience that excels in gameplay, movement, and exploration. If you haven’t played this game yet, then i really suggest you give it a try!
