NEWSNintendo Switch 2Dec 27, 2025

The beloved indie farming sim Stardew Valley has quietly debuted on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2, much to the delight of fans around the world. Originally published by ConcernedApe, this new edition of the almost decade-old classic arrived as a surprise holiday launch on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.

While the core experience of Stardew Valley remains faithful to its roots, including building a farm, befriending townsfolk, exploring mines, fishing, and crafting, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition introduces several enhancements designed to take advantage of Nintendo’s latest hardware:

  • Mouse-style Controls: The game now supports intuitive mouse input using the Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 controllers, making inventory management and furniture placement smoother and more precise.
  • Expanded Multiplayer:
    • Local split-screen co-op for up to four players on one screen.
    • Online multiplayer supporting up to eight players in a shared farm world.
  • GameShare Integration: Up to three friends can join a co-op session even if they don’t own the game — as long as one person has it downloaded.

One of the most player-friendly aspects of this launch is Nintendo’s free upgrade policy. If you already own Stardew Valley on the original Nintendo Switch, you can download the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition at no extra charge via a free Upgrade Pack through the Nintendo eShop. Your existing save data will carry over, making the transition seamless.

For new players picking up the game on Switch 2, it’s currently priced around $14.99 on the eShop, the same as previous digital listings.

With enhanced controls, bigger multiplayer possibilities, and the free upgrade for Switch owners, Stardew Valley: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition looks set to be one of the standout indie releases of the 2025 holiday season!
